The Fashion and Textile Museum - London

Today visit at The Fashion and Textile Museum of London. If you have the chance to come here in the city, really go. 

The exhibition of the moment is Undercover: the evolution of underwear.

And, as the description on the website says, "it traces the evolution of underwear from health garment, shape definer to fashion ‘must have’. It explores a number of themes such as boudoir to everyday glamour [...]; research and innovation’s impact on the types of underwear we wear; and how the changing face of underwear advertising and marketing meshes with social and cultural changes. The exhibition presents a visual demonstration of how female underwear has evolved as women’s role in society changed. It encompasses the changing trends from the ‘flatten it’ to the ‘push it up’ to the ‘let it all hang out’! Undercover contains some exquisite pieces from a wide range of private and public collections..."

There was also an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G bodysuit from La Perla, but unfortunatly I have no pictures of it. Such a shame because it was the most beautiful piece of the entire exhibition.

H&M Magazine - Autumn 2009

And here we again!

I never paid much attention to the H&M Magazine, but I have to admit that the ideas of the next Fall/Winter Collection are kind of interesting.

First of all, I fell in love with this outfit:

The tshirt, the leather dress, the necklace...everything is in the right place. 

And tshirts seem to be the wear-with-everything-you-can item of the season: they even look good paired with a Chanel-style jacket!

Finally, a tshirt again: the details of the shounders needs to be seen for real, so I definetly have plan a visit to the H&M store one of the next days. Summer never started here in London, so I better start thinking about the winter.

I don't remember where I found this picture (I'm sorry), but today it just came into my hands again and I simply wanted to share it. 

I don't actually think I am already ready for the winter, since I haven't seen summer yet (here in London, if you don't know, we're stuck in November). But I would love to have a try with this outfit once. Maybe when it will be really November.

Fashion's Night Out is a global initiative to promote retail, restore confidence, and celebrate fashion. US and international editions of Vogue are coordinating evening extravaganzas in their respective world fashion capitals. 

The idea started in NY, where next to finance, fashion is the second largest sector of industry in the city. So, on September 10th, the first evening of New York Fashion Week, Fashion's Night Out will encompass festivities galore. Champagne may flow, hors d'oeuvres may be passes. Rumors of musical performances, downtown barbecues, shoes capsules, limited-edition rings, and sweepstakes abound. Apparently there will be makeovers, brow bars and haircut stations at sundry spots too.

Relish the opportunity in any way you deem exciting and beneficial. ;)

Having a look at the pictures taken in Paris by Pascal Le Segretain during Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture show, I noticed how the French designer evokes diva's styles all over his collection.

Girl crush. Giovanna Battaglia.

I confess: I love her.

Giovanna Battaglia, fashion editor L'uomo Vogue, is one of my favorite fashion icons. Her experience as a stylist gave her a  wardrobe that would be the envy of any fashion editor. A mix of sartorial splendor, killer heels, lots of grey and black, simple jewelry, minimal hair and makeup, always managing to look chic and comfortable "despite her penchant for short skirts (and who wouldn't, with those legs?)".

Craving.

I was having a look at my huge collection of web findings -pictures- and I spotted this jacket. I don't remember where I got it, but it's unbelievably breath taking. Does anyone know where was it posted?? 

Is the jacket a DIY?

When tables become shoes.

I've always liked Nicholas Kirkwood. It has been love since the beginning, in 2003,  when as a new St. Martin's College graduate he was creating shoes mainly with vintage shapes. I recently had the chance to get one pair of his first collection, but I generously gave it to Romina (che non mi ha ancora detto se le vanno bene!!!), sure she would have love it.

Since then, the shapes, the materials, the inspiration, the overall style, have changed and changed, and now Nicholas pieces could be considered as design work of art, deserving to be put in design museums instead of shoe closets.In the days I was home (last week), I got to know that, as part of a special project from Alta Roma, the Italian institution dedicated to supporting the country's fashion industry, the designer (who only recently won critical acclaim at the Vogue Italia "Who's Next" accessories design awards) has created a shoe inspired by Turineses designer Carlo Mollino.

Turineses? REALLY??....I mean: Nicholas Kirkwood recognising the works of probably the most famous architect of my city! (not really know anywhere else, probably, if not by architecture and design people)

I was more than surprised when I red it, especially because Mollino was interested in a variety of topics, that were as outrageous as his art, such as design, architecture, the occult, and race cars, but no fashion at all and no shoes. So, when Kirkwood explained "I took inspiration from the Cavour writing desk Mr. Mollino made from Zanotta", I had the need to see...

The desk is beautiful, amazing, elegant, but the shoes............ ehm...well....No.

Mr. Kirkwood escuses himself saying "Throughout his industrial design work, Carlo Mollino frequently used a wood, glass and fabric, so the shoe is a direct reference to table. The Cavour table features a balance between heaviness and lightness - a beautiful asymmetrical balance. It's strong visually swooping shape, similar to the shoe that I created for the event."

Personally I will take a shoe designed from something other than a table. There's no grace, flow, beauty, femininity. Aren't they elements to covet in a shoe? If we wear heels it is to look and feel beautiful and not like we are clumping around on a tabletop. I understand that these are extreme and they are conceptual and they are pure design and...and...and..., but so is Couture and, honestly again, I will think a lot before being inspired by tables when it comes to my shoes.
